Another year, another update…

So, maybe I’m not a blogger! It’s been yet another year (and then some) since I’ve checked back in and SO MUCH has changed! We moved across my neighborhood and are moving towards doing real estate investing (because why not add more things to the list of what we do?). We also officially have a toddler. She’s absolutely brilliant and surprises us every single day.

Kyla and I finally got Modern Figures Podcast up and running. This is our third season and reached 50 episodes and over 20,000 views! We are now in the process of recording season four! Over the year, we’ve hired an editor, one of my favorite humans, Allison Goins. She is the genius behind Relatable Science, which explores the materials science behind products in the beauty industry. We are also now working with an incredible woman, Robin Kinnie, of Motor City Woman Studios. She’s handling our social media and helping increase our brand and will take over on the editing front to free up Allison for other things.

I also got a new tenure-track position in my department and found out we were awarded a newly NSF-funded project that introduces middle school students from underserved communities to AI concepts (primarily machine learning) through fossil shark teeth. Cool, right? We had our first professional development for this project and the project I work on that introduces kids to engineering design through wind engineering-related projects.

I HIRED MY FIRST STUDENT and it looks like my lab will be pretty full starting in January and I am thrilled.
